INEKARDS - A Quality Visual Support System

What are Inekards flashcards?

Inekards flashcards are effective picture cues in the form of photographic images on individual laminated cards. The cards provide a method to teach by presenting a consistent resource that will reinforce language and communication skills by allowing many categories and subjects to be represented. They are clear representations of a range of subjects that involve actions, places, people and associated interrelated activities between them.

The cards provide the versatility to allow you to teach subjects through repetition that would be hard or impractical to teach using the actual item within an educational environment.

Language Learners (flashcards without words)

The focus of this card design is learning to associate the spoken word with the image. The natural progression of language for a child is to correspond a word with an object, first receptively and eventually expressively. For many with learning difficulties those skills are not learnt instinctively and language has to be clear photographic images with no confusing backgrounds or text.

  • Allows the child to focus on the object presented without distraction.
  • Clean simple design.
  • The cards are white on the back which allows them to be used for games, eg. memory, bingo, snap.
  • The same image can be used for a multitude of different learning exercises rather than being associated with one word.
  • Because Language Learner cards have no words, they can be used to teach in any language.

Reading Readiness (flashcards with words)

The focus of this card design is promote reading & language skills through picture and word associations.

They can move with the progression of your child’s ability, not only reinforcing expressive and receptive language, but also by teaching reading. The front of the card presents the word with the image, so a relationship can be formed to the meaning of the written word. The second stage of reading by sight and sounding words out phonetically can be achieved with the back of the card, which only has the word in large easy to read text. When these cards are presented to the student with repetition and consistency they will promote and improve your child’s reading ability.

  • Clear easy to read text.
  • Image and sight word on the front.
  • Sight word on the back.
  • Can be used for many age groups.

    What are Visual Schedules?

Our visual schedules are a series of pictorial cues that represent a child’s daily activities. When used consistently they can help establish routines and increase independence. They provide structure to allow children to understand what is happening next and can be used at home and school.

Who can benefit from Visual Schedules?

Just like we use a diary or a calendar to remember things, children also benefit from having a schedule to refer to. A VISUAL schedule is more appropriate for children as their visual attention is better than their auditory attention at a young age. Research also shows that most children with autism are visual learners.

Schedules can assist with the development of communication, social & behavioural skills. They can be particularly helpful to children who have:

    • Autism
    • Aspergers
    • Language delay
    • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
